ummm, I don’t know if I understood the question, but if you are talking about learning to draw:  Yes, it is an option to deal with colors, shapes, spots and start to artistically experiment. 

But line works like an inicial guide. I personally believe that learning to handle reality first and then distort it, is more effective than prioritizing abstraction and then trying to limit yourself.
