In fact, I’m starting in watercolor and I do pretty experimental things. I can recommend you a book I have that will probably help you more than any tip I could give you.

 Is called:  Terry Harrison’s Watercolour Secrets: A lifetime of painting techniques

It has types of brushes, paint techniques, materials to buy, combinations with other artistic methods, etc. Having a book on hand always helps ^^
