sn0wtaffy asked:

In one video, someone said to stop line dependency for people who are just starting. What are your thoughts on that?

ummm, I don’t know if I understood the question, but if you are talking about learning to draw:  Yes, it is an option to deal with colors, shapes, spots and start to artistically experiment.

But line works like an inicial guide. I personally believe that learning to handle reality first and then distort it, is more effective than prioritizing abstraction and then trying to limit yourself.

gamerwolf29 asked:

Hey, so I finally got sick of not being artistically inclined, and decided to try learning to draw. Do you have any advice or resources for beginners?

Hi! ^^ Thanks for asking

Maybe I can give you a couple of tips~

Big and Small: The smaller the drawing, the easier it is to control the proportions. When you want to make a big drawing, it’s good to makes several small sketchs to avoid wasting time and material.

Shape: Complete the shape even if it is not visible at the end. This helps create unity and prolixity.

Contrast:  a drawing has to be understood clearly even if you look at it from 10 meters.  Here for example: the black hair of the animal contrasts with the background, but the skull is a little lost

Correction: we always draw for one side or the other. Flip your drawing or put it upside down it’s very useful. With time you will not have to do this anymore. Here I leave a drawing from a few years ago. The difference between one side and the other of the face is clearly visible.

Practice: if you force yourself to draw, it will not help. Your drawings will be mediocre and you will be frustrated. I only draw when I feel like it. If you want to force yourself to practice anyway, then you can look for inspiration in characters, songs or reading for example. Something that stimulate your imagination.

Books: Depends on what you want to draw: landscape books, human figure, animal figure, etc. If you want something like cartoon I recommend you Preston Blair and for something realistic, Loomis

Courses: having someone who knows more than you to mark your mistakes is particularly effective. Find a course that will help you in what you are interested in learning.

Copy: it isn’t cheating, you learn a lot and with time you will not need it anymore.

Materials: Maybe you feel more comfortable drawing with a pen than a pencil, or brush. There is infinite materials and different techniques to explore.

I hope it helps!! :3
